Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei

bildarchive

Since 2007 the bildarchive capture the continuous structural transformation of the Spinnerei from an idle plant into a hot spot of international contemporary art by using artistically narrative, non-documentary methods. The SPINNEREI accommodates nowadays numerous international galleries, studios, workshops as well as trading and service companies. On the occasion of the SPINNEREI gallery tours, the project bildarchive features an exhibition series at SPINNEREI archiv massiv, which involves accompanying booklets that contain selected motifs of the presented pictures in postcard format. Each time an artist is asked to create an artistically pictorial access to his personal experience with the SPINNEREI in form of a physical, social, symbolic, and economic space within the frame of the bildarchive. In that way, the SPINNEREI inspires to deeply individual, artistic work.

SPINNEREI archiv massiv

Founded by Bertram Schultze on July 21, 2004 as an exhibition space between the priorities of the area’s history and contemporary young art from the Spinnerei-studios: a museum and a gallery side by side. After exhibiting works of the artists Johannes Tiepelmann, Sandro Porcu, Edgar L., Konstanze Siegemund, Margret Hoppe, Nicole Kegel, and Karl Goerlich until the year 2007, archiv massiv has expanded spacially and has additionally succeeded to the task of an information centre accommodating the increasing public interest in the Spinnerei. Under the direction of Konstanze Siegemund, a competent team for guided single and group tours through the site of the Spinnerei has developed. To the visitors’ own interest, individual focus areas such as architecture, art, factory revitalisation, or craft are considered in the course of the tours. With the continuous exhibition series «bildarchive» an artistically photographic documentation of the steady transformation of Spinnerei started in 2007. Since 2008 archiv massiv furthermore serves as a platform for products manufactured in the workshops at the Spinnerei.
