The maerzgalerie was founded by Torsten Reiter in 1999 in Leipzig. The gallery exhibits new painting, photography, installation and sculpture, mostly by younger authors. “Diving for pearls”, for commanding and powerful artistic positions, is a distinctive characteristic here. Positions that develop and renew themselves continuously and independently are seen as the most interesting and valuable ones in view of this self-perception. Besides establishing the represented authors, supporting and building up younger artists are key interests for the gallery. External exhibitions, project rooms and participations as well as temporary cooperations are summarized under “maerzaffairs”.

In January 2009 the gallery opened a second space in Berlin. At each place we will show six to eight exhibitions by international artists annually.
